Laika is a very nice bitch and possesses all of the qualities that we would have loved to incorporate into our breeding program.   Unfortunately there are some very disconcerting facets of her pedigree that have forced us to make the heart-wrenching decision to spay her, as we felt that it would have been unethical to breed her.  Even though she remains unaffected herself, her littermate, Blaze, is affected with canine epilepsy.  Through our research, we have found numerous other dogs within this pedigree that are/were either affected or produced affected.

We remain hopeful that progress is made by the veterinary community in identifying the DNA marker(s) involved with canine epilepsy, so that we are afforded the opportunity to screen for carriers of this life-altering disorder.

Laika will continue to enjoy being spolied rotten and may one day begin a career in obedience and agility.
